OUR STORY

Founded in Stockholm 2006, Jim Rickey was created to fill the huge
gap between sports shoes and the overpriced products from the luxury
brands. The idea was to offer products to high quality, minimalistic and timeless design at a fair price.

We design products with a
strong silhouette, in basic colors that do not go out of time. Our style
never changes, it evolves. Over the past 17 years, we have matured as a brand and are constantly developing our range. Our products are well thought out, produced with an eye for details and act as a counterpoint to today’s
wear and tear society. With that said, we have developed, learned and changed, for the better.

A product’s footprint on the environment cannot only be measured for the exact moment you produce it, but also calculated how long it lasts. We are constantly collaborating with our suppliers to continue the work with environmental awareness so that we can all be a part of the future. With timeless design, premium materials and excellent craftsmanship, we think that Jim Rickey is a very good choice to
contribute for generations to come.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

THE MISSION

Offer well-made and ethically sustainable products at reasonable prices

We produce all our shoes in Felgueiras, the area north of Porto. There is a long-standing tradition of shoe production with all its components where it is not uncommon for the craft to go on for generations.

THE VISION

Keep working with our minimalistic philosophy as we are convinced that sustainablitity and durability is better for us and the world.

THE PROCESS

WHAT WE DO AND HOW WE DO IT

At Jim Rickey, we cherish tradition and therefore choose small family-owned factories that have an eye for both details and a long-term perspective. We make all our shoes in Felgueiras, the area north of Porto. Here there is a long tradition of shoemaking with all its components where it is not unusual for the craft to continue for generations. Unfortunately, traditional craftsmanship has given way to mass production, the world is wasting valuable resources in favor of cheap junk products, which results in more recycling and, in the worst case, waste. It’s quite logical really, durable and well-made products lead to less abuse of all kinds of resources.

Every partner we work with has been tested to meet our high quality standards, both when it comes to environmental awareness but also fair contracts for employees. With years of combined experience in the industry, we have managed to identify the best factories you can find. Over the years we have been able to build strong relationships with these craftsmen, who have taught us what it takes to fulfill the JIM RICKEY quality we know and have come to love.

All suppliers we work with must comply with REACH and also be approved by L.G.W (Leather Workers Group) or certified by OEKO-TEX.

OUR MATERIALS AND HOW TO MAKE THEM LAST

COW LEATHER

Painted cow leather is crafted from high-quality cowhide, known for its durability and natural grain pattern. The leather undergoes a thorough tanning process to enhance its strength and resilience, making it suitable for various applications.

Once the cowhide is prepared, it undergoes a meticulous painting process. Artisans apply layers of paint or dye to the surface of the leather, using specialized techniques to achieve the desired color intensity and finish. The paint or dye penetrates the leather fibers, creating a vibrant and long-lasting hue.

Start by removing any surface debris or dust from the painted cow leather surface. Use a soft cloth or brush to gently brush away loose dirt. Before proceeding with cleaning, perform a spot test in an inconspicuous area of the leather to ensure that the cleaning solution does not cause any adverse effects on the paint or dye. Mix a small amount of mild soap or leather cleaner with water to create a gentle cleaning solution. Avoid using harsh chemicals or solvents that may damage the painted surface. Dampen a soft cloth or sponge with the cleaning solution. Wring out any excess liquid to prevent over-saturation, which can damage the leather. Gently wipe the painted cow leather surface with the damp cloth or sponge, using light, circular motions. Focus on areas with visible dirt or stains, but avoid excessive rubbing, which may cause the paint or dye to fade or wear off.

To finish of use a dry cloth to gently blot the leather surface and remove excess moisture. Allow the leather to air dry naturally, away from direct heat or sunlight.

PREMIUM SUEDE

Our premium cow suede is a high-quality Italian suede with a soft, napped finish. Sourced from the finest cow hides and treated with the utmost care, our premium cow suede undergoes a meticulous process to ensure it meets the highest standards of craftsmanship. The result is a product that exudes durability, quality, and a touch of artisanal finesse.

Cleaning cow suede requires a gentle and careful approach to avoid damaging the delicate nap (the raised surface) and maintaining the soft, luxurious texture. Suede does not respond well to moisture, so we recommend spot-cleaning these materials with a shoe brush, which doesn’t require water. To clean the outsole, use a soft sponge with small amount of washing-up liquid. Using circular motions, gently scrub the outsole until clean. Make sure you don't touch the upper leather. Allow shoes to air dry completely for at least 2 hours.

Note! Color Transfer from Dye Bleed. This can occur especially if the contrasting materials are washed together or if the suede becomes wet.

NUBUCK LEATHER

Nubuck leather is a high-quality type of leather that is prized for its luxurious feel, distinctive appearance, and durability. It is created from the outer side of the animal hide, typically sourced from cattle, and undergoes a specialized tanning and finishing process to achieve its unique characteristics. Introducing our Nubuck Leather – where sophistication meets supreme softness. Elevate your style with a luxurious material that captures the essence of refined comfort and timeless elegance.

Use a nubuck brush or a soft brush to gently remove any loose dirt or dust from the nubuck leather. Brush in the direction of the nap (the raised surface) to avoid damaging the fibers. Nubuck does not respond well to moisture, so we recommend spot-cleaning these materials with a shoe brush, which doesn’t require water. To clean the outsole, use a soft sponge with small amount of washing-up liquid. Using circular motions, gently scrub the outsole until clean. Make sure you don't touch the upper leather.

GRAINED LEATHER

Embossed grained leather is a distinctive type of leather that combines the natural texture of grained leather with an added layer of depth and detail through embossing. Our embossed grained leather is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship. The precision and attention to detail in the embossing process ensure that every pattern is perfectly rendered, making your leather goods or footwear a showcase of quality and refinement.

The grain surface is uneven and dust and dirt can get stuck in the cracks. If brushing your shoes does not remove all of the dirt, you can use a damp cloth (do not use any soap or solvent based fluid) to clean away the areas. Make sure you leave the shoes to dry naturally; you must not dry your shoes on a radiator or heater.
